Analysis Of Body Composition Of Physically Active Children

Introduction. Childhood physical activity is necessary for the physical and psychical development of human organism and preservation of their health. Besides having a momentary effect on the body, it is also vital for creating further on good health condition and well-being. The aim of our survey is to prove that children doing regular physical activity have better fitness score and body composition results than other children doing just average physical activity.
Material and methods. The selected group of children regularly – three times a week – take part in the Mini Sport Talents Programme (MSTP) doing equilibrium, fitness and physical coordination exercises. Physical status of children in 2017-2019 was examined at their training place. Body composition was examined by InBody 720 body composition analyzer. The survey sample is 48 children between 3 and 14. The results of these children were compared to the results of the Hungarian National Growth Study 2003-2006.
Results. Boys of all age groups are heavier but not necessarily taller than the girls. Until reaching puberty, boys have more abdominal fat and body fat; after then girls have more of both. The same tendency can be seen in case of BMI and obesity degree. In all age groups muscle mass, fat free mass, total body water, mineral content and bone mass are higher in boys than in girls. The fitness score becomes lower in case of both sexes as time progresses, but sexual dimorfism can be experienced: between the age 7 and 14 girls have higher scores. Metabolic rate is always higher in boys. Comparing these with the results of the Hungarian National Growth Study 2003-2006, examined children – both girls and boys – have bigger body mass and body height before puberty than the national average. During puberty the proportion changes: examined children – both girls and boys – have lower body mass and body height than the national average. Their BMI is also higher than the national average before puberty, and becomes lower after reaching age 12.
Discussion. according to the examination, the rates of the components of body composition and body mass of physically active children are higher than the national average until reaching puberty, then these results become lower than the average. BMI data confirm these results.
Conclusion. Regular physical activity begun early in life has a positive effect on reaching ideal body composition and BMI, which indicates better health condition in adulthood.
